Once you have your Provisional licence (see bottom
of home page to apply) you are able to take you theory test. The earlier you learn all you need to know for the theory the
better. It will help you in your practical lessons, and therefore save you money!
The
test is in two parts. First the Multiple Choice. The multiple choice is on a touch screen computer. You have
57 minutes to answer 50 questions. To pass this part of the test, you must answer 43 questions
correctly. Take your time! 57 minutes is plenty of time to read the questions thoroughly, so don't rush. You
can always 'flag' questions that you are unsure of and come back to them later.
After the Multiple Choice, you have a 3 minute break before doing your Hazard Perception Test.
You will then see a tutorial clip. You will use the mouse to register when you see a developing hazard.
It is fine to click several times and at all potential hazards, however, continual clicking will be considered as cheating
and will result in no marks for that clip. You'll be reminded of this before starting!
There are 14 clips, each with at least one scorable developing
hazard, and one clip with 2 scorable developing hazards, so remember to keep your eye on the ball right until
the end of each clip!
Each clip is
scored out of 5. If you react early you will score 5, if you react later you will score 1. Too late and you'll score 0
for that clip. The pass mark for the Hazard Perception Test is 44 out of 75.
The Theory Test as described,
costs £28.50 (at the time of our last website update) and can be booked online at www.dsa.gov.uk You can also find more information on the test and the Practical Test at this
