Practical Driving Test

rbout8car.gif

The driving test will take about 40 minutes. It's important to make sure you have your licence (both parts) and your Theory Test Certificate before leaving home for the test! Your instructor will remind you of this in the run up to, and on the day of your test.
You'll meet your examiner and be asked to read and sign the statement and then accompany them outside.
Once outside, you will be asked to read a number plate of a vehicle that is not yours or your instructors. This will be from a distance of about 20 metres. If you wear glasses for everyday use, it's important to make sure you bring them with you and wear them.
You'll then be asked a couple of questions from the Show Me/ Tell me questions. Once done, the examiner will ask you to get in and get yourself ready, then he or she will join you.
The actual drive will be about 35 minutes, and once you get going, it will fly by. You'll be asked to do some of the maneouvres you've learned, but you won't be asked to do all of them. If at anytime you make a mistake, it's important to remember that they are not expecting perfection! Forget it and continue on in a positive manner. In our experience, the vast majority of people think they've failed the test even when they've passed... right up until the examiner congratulates them!
You can make 15 minor mistakes and still pass the test, as long as you don't make a serious or dangerous fault. Repeatedly making a minor fault could also mean a failure, so try to stay 'on the ball' for the whole 40 minutes.
When you return to the test centre, if you haven't parked the car yet, you may be asked to reverse into the bay, or you may just be asked to stop somewhere safe and convenient. The examiner will then tell you how you've done. If you've passed, they'll take your licence from you and send away for your new, full licence. You will be given a pass certificate that allows you to drive until your licence comes back from the DVLA.
Although everybody is nervous before their test, if you have the right instruction, and the right attitude to safe and thoughtful driving, you'll be fine! Some people actually look back on their test and tell us they enjoyed it!
Good luck in your quest to get on the road. If you have anymore questions, please feel free to contact us. bluecartraining@aol.com
